When you go to the sea-side you have to have fish and chips.

    It's the rules.

The Blue Dolphin has long been praised in the area for being the BEST fish and chips.

Now if Hastings does one thing right, it's its Fish and Chips. As with any resort by the sea you'll have a plethora of choice along the promenade and through the Old Town. These tasty battered offerings in abundance, it's quite a thing to claim the 'BEST FISH AND CHIPS IN TOWN'.

In my opinion, the Blue Dolphin has good fish and chips. Better than most places in the country, but not the BEST.

Because of it's reputation, it is reliably busy all through the summer and seating is limited inside. If you don't mind waiting in the inevitable queue, sometimes stretching through the car park then you'll be greeted with a mighty fine, fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside chip and a perfectly battered bit-o-fish.

It does have a bit of a reputation for just being closed sometimes. Randomly closing here there and everywhere. But if you wander down there, find it closed... just keep walking, they'll be another.

People in Hastings speak with such pride about this place. I went there after several recommendations and was really underwhelmed. It was OK, but that was about it. Just like any other chippy really......

A little like the town itself it was perhaps better a few years ago. It's doubly sad as they still fish here with a small fleet of beach launched boats.

So. Where to go for the best fresh fish? Straight to the New Inn at Winchelsea. The best grilled plaice I have ever eaten. Anywhere.

Pretty ordinary fish n chips. Dry chips not fresh at all, ok ish fish. We had Cod, fairly small portion for nearly £7.00 Pretty tight doesn't come with even a spoonful of peas, everything like that is an additional extra. Wouldn't return.

Not really fast food but if you are happy to wait your turn it does hot the spot. Usually well cooked generous portions make it a good choice if you do not want to sit at a table. If you do choose to eat on the beach  watch out for greedy Kamakasi seagulls  their single-minded desire to rob you of your chips can be a surprising to say the least!
